J Beth Mabry, PhD, is Professor of Sociology and Leadership in the Department of Sociology, Administration, Leadership Studies in the NonProfit and Public Sectors at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She earned her PhD in Sociology from Virginia Tech with a dissertation (1999) on “Social Structure and Anger; Social Psychology Mediators.” Her multidisciplinary research interests include leadership development, human services and social policy, intergenerational relationships and aging, and social processes, stress and well-being. Teaching since 1996, with positions at Virginia Tech, University of Southern California, and her current home of Indiana University since 2002 where she has been working with undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students. Beth’s many publications show her breadth in both quantitative and qualitative research methods as she examines areas such as professional development, intergenerational relationships, and race, anger and alienation. Dissertations she has chaired just in the past two years include foci on children’s advocacy, HIV experiences, rural gay and lesbian identities, organizational effectiveness in nonprofits and women’s leadership development in the banking industry.
