(E) Event: Addressing Organizational Trauma and Building Resilience

Teams and organizations, like individuals, can be harshly impacted by trauma. Organizational trauma may result from a single devastating event, from the effects of many deleterious events, or from the impact of cumulative trauma over time. The pain and shock of trauma are reverberating through many of our teams, agencies and first-responder units. Unaddressed organizational trauma — whether sudden or cumulative — causes serious harm and can be catastrophic for organizations. It negatively impacts service delivery, compromises relationships with co-workers, and weakens the organization’s ability to respond to internal and external challenges. Over time the unhealed effects of trauma compromise the organization’s fundamental health. This experiential workshop will offer you opportunities to build your own resilience, and provide you with tools to work within your organization.

Participants will learn:

  • Sources of organizational trauma
  • The Strengths and Shadows Model
  • Criteria for building resilience: connections, ability to adapt, and ways to be innovative
  • Strategies for strengthening individual and organizational resilience
